Young medical assistant strengthens child rehabilitation in East Tyrol

As part of the Erasmus+ program, a project funded by the EU, students have the opportunity to complete internships lasting several weeks in healthcare facilities in other European countries. The Hannover Medical School (MHH) supports this program both financially and organizationally in order to expand the participants' professional knowledge and make new contacts. This is proven by the current experiences of Constantin Brockmann, a 21-year-old trainee as a medical assistant (MFA), who recently completed an internship at the Ederhof in East Tyrol.

Constantin received valuable advice for his internship from his training manager Joe Onur. He had previously completed a stint in the heart transplant clinic, which inspired him to work with sick children. After his arrival at the Ederhof, a rehabilitation center that specializes in caring for families with children who have had liver or kidney transplants, he was warmly integrated into the team.

Experiences at the Ederhof

The rehabilitation center mainly looks after children who are on average four years old. Constantin quickly realized that his internship was associated with a variety of tasks: measuring vital parameters, taking blood samples, conducting ultrasound examinations and dismantling dialysis machines were among his tasks. He also accompanied families on excursions and activities in nature and assisted with dressing changes. Doris Etzelsberger, the nursing manager at the Ederhof, praised Constantin for his active support in the team and emphasized the family-oriented concept of the facility.

Ederhof's philosophy aims to make the rehabilitation experience as pleasant as possible, so that the children and their families feel like they are not in a hospital. Constantin found working with the young patients extremely enriching and recommends the internship to other interested parties.

Benefits of the Erasmus+ program

The Erasmus+ program offers students a variety of benefits that go beyond practical learning. Not only does it improve specialist knowledge and skills for the labor market, but it also offers cultural experiences. Students who take part in this program can develop entrepreneurial and creative skills, improve their foreign language skills and strengthen intercultural and interpersonal skills.

A remarkable statistic shows that one in ten Erasmus+ interns has founded their own company. The possibility of mixed mobility, which combines a short stay with digital presence, opens up additional perspectives. The internship can take place anywhere in the world as long as it is relevant to your studies and personal development.

Erasmus+ not only represents opportunities for students, but also for companies. Through the internationally trained interns, they can gain innovative ideas and perspectives, increase their competitiveness and open up new markets through cultural understanding.

For students interested in an internship abroad, the MHH provides detailed information on how to apply and offers support to make the process easier. Further information is also available on the official website Erasmus+ website available.
