MHH Hannover: Germany's ninth best smart hospital 2026!
The Hannover Medical School (MHH) is proud to announce that it has reached 115th place in Newsweek's current ranking of the "World's Best Smart Hospitals 2026". This makes the MHH one of the nine best smart hospitals in Germany and the only one in the state of Lower Saxony. This ranking underlines the university's commitment to modern technologies and innovative healthcare.
The ranking, which is based on a global online survey, was carried out from May to July 2025. It takes into account recommendations from medical professionals, accreditation data, certifications and patient-related outcome reports. This year, a total of 350 facilities from 30 countries were evaluated, including hospitals from the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. Newsweek explains that the rankings are based on the implementation of new medical technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic surgery, telemedicine and automation.
Innovation in healthcare
The President of the MHH, Professor Denise Hilfiker-Kleiner, emphasizes how important innovation is in healthcare. At the beginning of 2025, your facility was among the top 100 worldwide and 5th in Germany. Furthermore, MHH clinics were included in the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026” specialist ranking in nine out of twelve specialties.
Specialties include cardiology, oncology and neurosurgery, all of which benefit from the latest developments in the healthcare sector. Modern digital technologies are used at the MHH to continually improve patient care. The results of the survey and the rankings of the hospitals clearly show that the development of smart hospitals is a future-oriented trend in medicine.
The role of telemedicine and AI
Telehealth services enable continuous communication between patients and healthcare professionals. It is estimated that around 116 million people will use virtual consultations with doctors in 2024. Many facilities are already using digital systems to fill out patient files on iPads, making the admissions process more efficient. This is just one example of the broad use of digitalization in healthcare, which also optimizes diagnostic and treatment processes. T3N reports that the market value of smart hospitals worldwide is currently estimated at approximately $72.24 billion and is expected to more than double by 2030.
The use of robots in the operating room is increasingly becoming a reality. Many hospitals have already revolutionized their processes with AI-supported diagnostics and modern technologies. The Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin also occupies a high place in the ranking and has emphasized how important digital innovations are for everyday hospital life.
In summary, the World's Best Smart Hospitals 2026 ranking shows that both international and national facilities aim to integrate advanced technologies into their processes to increase the quality of care while increasing efficiency. This goal is increasingly coming into focus thanks to continued advances in telemedicine, robotics and other innovative approaches.
