MINT offensive in Braunschweig: getting students excited about technology!
On March 9, 2025, the Technical University of Braunschweig will provide information about current projects and initiatives that primarily focus on promoting MINT subjects. Particularly noteworthy is the “Role2Role” project, which was launched in January 2025 by the university and the House of Science. The goal of this project is to inspire high school students to pursue MINT courses and careers, with a special focus on battery and fuel cell technologies. This not only arouses interest in these promising areas, but also makes a concrete contribution to closing the MINT skilled worker gap, which currently stands at around 250,000 in Germany Technopolis Group reported.
In addition, the TU Braunschweig offers a master's module on nutrition and metabolism in cooperation with the University of São Paulo. This module includes virtual lectures, interactive group work and practical exercises to prepare students for international scientific collaboration. Another important aspect is the Lower Saxony – Scotland research and innovation program, which provides up to 100,000 euros for joint research as part of the “Stream II – Excellence Track”. The application deadline for this is June 30, 2025, with two online Q&A events taking place this month.
Science communication events
As part of the “Science Showcase” initiative, the Science and Art Lab at TU Braunschweig opened the first event on March 4th. This series of events, which runs until June, aims to combine art and science. In addition, the #buntstadt conference will be held on March 15th on the North Campus, which will offer various workshops to strengthen democracy under the motto "Now more than ever! For democracy - against hatred and incitement".
An event with a particular focus on combining science and care will take place on March 19th. The online event “The Care Gap in Science – and How We Can Close It” is discussed here. With the participation of experts, it will be discussed how parenthood and a scientific career can be better combined, a topic that is particularly relevant given the high drop-out rate of 49% among MINT students.
News and innovations at TU Braunschweig
To improve communication and information provision, a new information portal with a revised design and new functions was launched on March 3rd. The initiative is based on the results of a service survey and workshops and enables more user-friendly navigation. In addition, from May 1, 2025, the university library will participate in a DFG-funded project to support Diamond Open Access.
The developments at TU Braunschweig are also made clear by the impending retirement of Regina Eckhoff, who has played a formative role in the university's communication for decades. Your initiatives, such as welcoming freshmen at the Eintracht Stadium, will be remembered, as will your standard-setting in editorial work.
Overall, TU Braunschweig offers a wide range of events and activities that enrich scientific and cultural life. The commitment to promoting MINT subjects and international cooperation are crucial aspects that should also attract future students to the university.
