Newly won funding: TU Clausthal starts German-Ukrainian project!
Clausthal University of Technology receives 766,000 euros from the DAAD for a German-Ukrainian university network to promote cooperation in electrical engineering.

Newly won funding: TU Clausthal starts German-Ukrainian project!
The Clausthal University of Technology has successfully acquired funding for the DAAD project “German-Ukrainian University Network” (DUHN). A sum of around 766,000 euros is intended to strengthen academic cooperation between Germany and Ukraine. At the center of these initiatives is a joint double degree program in the master's degree program in electrical engineering and information technology in cooperation with the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI). This connection not only opens up new perspectives for the teaching and research landscape, but also promotes access to international knowledge and digital resources.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has selected a total of 29 cooperation projects from German universities for funding as part of its program. These projects are to be supported from a total budget of 24 million euros until 2029 in order to promote the reconstruction of the Ukrainian higher education sector and integration into the European Higher Education Area. The projects are aimed at 47 Ukrainian universities and will start in July 2023.
Important aspects of the project
A key goal of the DUHN is to enroll students at the KPI in Kiev for the winter semester of 2026, followed by a one-year study stay at the TU Clausthal. In addition, an open digital learning platform is being developed that conveys content at the interface of automation and artificial intelligence. This innovative platform aims to promote networked laboratories and joint research teams, which intensify academic collaboration.
The funding provided will also be used for various activities, including study visits, research and teaching stays as well as German courses for KPI students. This also supports modern laboratory equipment in Kiev in order to optimize the educational paths of students. The program also includes summer schools and joint workshops that complement and stimulate scientific exchange.
Long-term cooperation and digitalization
Another important aspect is the long-standing collaboration between Prof. Sergei Peresada from KPI and Prof. Stefan Palis from TU Clausthal, which serves as a solid foundation for the project. The DAAD funding program IMKD, which supports the digital support of the student journey in international collaborations, also offers innovative approaches to the digitalization of teaching and administrative processes. With the focus on the integration of digital instruments, higher education is being made more future-proof and new forms of exchange are emerging.
The goal of digitalization and international exchange pursued by the program makes it clear how important it is to overcome institutional and regional boundaries. Universities are now required to make optimal use of the opportunities offered by digitalization. By combining physical mobility and virtual collaborations, sustainable solutions can be developed for today's challenges.
