The chemical industry is one of the most important economic sectors in Germany and ranks third among the largest sectors. There are around 25,000 people employed in this area in Lower Saxony. Against this background, the Clausthal University of Technology has announced a new German-English master's program in business chemistry, which will start in the winter semester of 2025/26. The new course combines chemistry with business administration (business administration) and places a particular focus on the university's key theme of the circular economy. This was announced by university president Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer, who highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in the chemical industry. In particular, the modern infrastructure of the new chemistry campus at Clausthal University of Technology is viewed as an important part of the training.
Master's degree program offers diverse perspectives
After introducing a bachelor's degree program in business chemistry four years ago, Clausthal University of Technology is now responding to the increasing demand for skilled workers. Prof. Andreas Schmidt, Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Natural and Materials Sciences, emphasizes the need for international and interdisciplinary approaches in education. The master's degree program is designed to prepare students for management positions in the chemical industry and related sectors.
Applications for the Master's degree program in Business Chemistry are now possible. The requirements include a bachelor's degree in business chemistry or a comparable degree. The four-semester course offers in-depth knowledge in areas such as technical and organic chemistry, market processes, logistics, patent law and practical experience.
Diverse elective subjects and international orientation
The curriculum also includes elective courses that introduce students to topics such as sustainability management, materials analysis, the chemistry of beer brewing, and the planning and construction of chemical plants. This diversity allows students to tailor their education to individual interests and career opportunities. In addition, the course is bilingual and promotes the use of the academic language English through practical application, which underlines the international perspective of TU Clausthal.
