Students shine at Jugend forscht” in Braunschweig!
The “Jugend forscht” regional competition took place in Braunschweig on February 28, 2025. The Technical University of Braunschweig took an active part in the event with two special prizes, eight jury members and the supervision of two student projects. The projects presented by talented students covered a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, sustainable energy production and biomedical innovations.
The jury was made up of eight scientists from TU Braunschweig who evaluated the innovative ideas and concepts of those involved. Marielle Elfers and Simon Kawohl impressed in the physics category with their project “Flying comfortably – without jerking”, which took second place. Jannat Touati received a special prize for her project on safety on railway tracks and was awarded the special prize “Shaping the future with safety”.
Awards and special prizes
The Technical University donated two special prizes that were awarded as part of the competition:
- Linus Strahl erhielt den Sonderpreis „Entdeckergeist“ für ein Experiment, das die Leit- und Schmierfähigkeit in Kugellagern untersuchte.
- Hanna Sophie Schleifer wurde für ihre Forschung zur Transfektionseffizienz in Osteosarkomzellen mit dem Sonderpreis „Entdecker*innen der Zukunft“ geehrt.
The prizes were presented during a celebratory ceremony by Peter Hecker, Vice President for Research at TU Braunschweig. In addition to the competition presentations, participants were able to take advantage of various hands-on activities in the Jugend forscht lounge, including experiments on 3D printing, fuel cells and programmable mini-robots.
Qualification for next rounds of competition
A total of 20 participants with 13 projects qualified for the next round of competition at the state level. The winners of “Jugend forscht junior” will compete in Einbeck, while the winners of the main competition will compete in Clausthal-Zellerfeld. These competitions offer promising young researchers the opportunity to qualify for the national competition in Hamburg.
