Summer semester 2025: New opportunities for lifelong learning in Hanover!

The guest auditor and senior studies program at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) also offers a valuable opportunity for academic further education for all age groups and school qualifications in the 2025 summer semester. Registration for this program is open until May 1, 2025. The participation fee for the semester is 146 euros. The course catalog can be requested upon request, and a new program will be available from March 19, 2025 www.ghs.uni-hannover.de available.

The summer semester begins with a combination of face-to-face events and digital offerings. The first information event on guest auditors and seniors' studies will take place on Thursday, March 24, 2025, at 5:15 p.m. in the Kesselhaus lecture hall at Schloßwender Straße 5. The topic of “Entering guest auditor and senior studies” is discussed there.

Semester opening and lecture

A special highlight is the semester opening on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 4:15 p.m., also in the Kesselhaus lecture hall. Dr. Dr. Lutz Peschke from Başkent University Ankara will give a lecture entitled “Sham giant science – the contribution of infographics to understanding complex content”. This offer is aimed at anyone interested in learning more about the possibilities of guest auditor and senior study.

Summer University – insight into the scientific world

Parallel to these offers, the SummerUni in Leibnizstadt, a joint project between Leibniz University and the state capital of Hanover, takes place. This event was launched on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the guest auditor program in 2010. Every year around twenty lectures, guided tours and seminars from various disciplines are offered to give the interested public an insight into scientific operations. Summer University 2023 begins on August 20th and ends on September 9th.

Anyone interested in what the Summer University offers can find further information and the program at sommer.uni-hannover.de.

The guest student and senior studies program as well as the Summer University are part of a comprehensive initiative that promotes education and further training right up to old age. The Academic Association of Seniors in Germany (AVDS) advocates for open senior studies and provides comprehensive information on study types and offerings. In addition, the seniors portal offers an overview of the various options for studying for seniors, including guest auditor studies and certificate studies.

Digitalization in the educational landscape has also become more important in continuing academic education for older adults. Before the Corona pandemic, online offerings were rare, but the use of digital formats has increased significantly since then. This has made it possible to continue to impart knowledge and promote exchange between generations even during difficult times.
