The current Shanghai Ranking, also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), published on September 3, 2025, analyzed over 2,500 universities worldwide. The University of Göttingen achieved a respectable ranking and shares the ranking between 6th and 11th place in Germany with the universities of Frankfurt, Cologne, Mainz, Münster and Tübingen. This evaluation covers universities in 55 subjects, categorized into five broad areas: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. In 2024, over 1,900 institutions from 96 countries were analyzed and more than 5,000 universities worldwide were presented.
GRAS uses objective academic indicators to evaluate performance, with five main dimensions taken into account: the excellence of the faculty, the quality of research, research influence, international exchange and the quantity of published work.
