Shaping the future: TU Braunschweig on the way to Ecoversity!
In mid-May 2025, the TU Braunschweig announced significant progress in its university development. This follows a strategic closed meeting of the Senate, Deans and Executive Board that took place at the end of April 2025. Central impulses for future collaboration in the form of a regional scientific ecosystem were discussed. The aim of this initiative is to develop the university sustainably by 2030 and to cooperate with other institutions. The magazine of the TU Braunschweig reports that this cooperative approach is essential for the formation of a so-called “Ecoversity” in the region.
President of the German University Association, Prof. Lambert T. Koch, was a key figure in the exchange. He gave an impulse on collective effectiveness, which inspired the participants to think about the existing cooperation structures. A central concern of the conference was trust and transparency as a basis for strategic cooperation. The executive committee thanked the members of the committees for their commitment to the further development of the university and noted that the common pursuit of goals and sound decision-making had been firmly established.
University development 2030
University Development 2030 is a defining part of this process. This is a participatory approach to defining general and strategic goals, which was completed at the end of 2022. The underlying university development concept (HEK), which has been available in its second version since August 2024, is intended to provide clear direction and orientation for all members of the university. The goals formulated in this concept are based on four performance dimensions and four strategically important cross-sectional topics.
As the university itself explains, further development in these cross-sectional topics is an indicator of the university's future success. In addition, the implementation of the goals takes place through a dynamic and circular process, which is supported by annual faculty discussions. Such discussions are necessary to continuously adjust the set goals and ensure that the university can react quickly to changes. The TU Braunschweig highlights that these strategies contribute to increasing efficiency and relevance in higher education.
The commitment and determination of the TU Braunschweig for future-proof further development are clearly visible. Constant adjustments and strengthening strategic cooperation between the Senate, deans and executive board are crucial in order to master the ambitions and challenges in the higher education landscape of tomorrow.
