60 years of RUB: Biggest anniversary celebration expected in the Ruhr area!

On June 4, 2025, the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) will begin. Under the motto “RUB 60 – built to change since 1965”, the numerous visitors are offered a diverse program. The main focus will be on the Great Stalls Market, organized by the RUB student body, on June 18, 2025 from 2 p.m. in the university's Nordforum.

The stalls market will be home to participants such as student councils, initiatives and university policy lists. Activities are planned ranging from information stands and hands-on activities to games and discussions. The AStA (General Student Committee) will be on site with a gaming hub as well as an information and drinks stand where delicious currywurst, free drinks and slush ice cream will be offered. In keeping with the colorful festive atmosphere, there will also be musical entertainment: DJs such as Tobishka and InfinityL∞p will play in front of the Repair Café.

Highlight of the celebrations

The official opening of the anniversary party is at 4 p.m. with greetings from Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. Martin Paul and the Chancellor. A special highlight will be the grilling of sausages and the serving of beer. From 7.30 p.m. there will be a pop choir concert in the Audimax under the motto “We’re moving to peace!” take place. There will also be a champagne reception for invited guests at 6 p.m. to mark the opening of an exhibition entitled “RUB 60 – Built to change since 1965” in the foyer of the university administration. This exhibition shows highlights from 60 years of university history and will be accessible until the end of the year.

Since its founding in 1965, the Ruhr University Bochum has established itself not only as an educational institution, but also as a driver of change in the Ruhr area. The RUB has played a significant role in the transformation of this region from a mining region to a center for modern science. Over the last six decades, the university has produced more first-time academics than any other university in Germany. These achievements have been supported by innovative research priorities and sustainable projects that have contributed to economic development.
