Bielefeld in transition: an evening full of history and a look into the future!”

On April 15, 2025, an exciting event entitled “Yesterday, today, tomorrow – an evening about Bielefeld” will take place in the Bielefeld Historical Museum. This special event will take place on April 29th at 7:30 p.m. in the Wissenwerkstadt and promises to offer interesting insights into the city's ongoing development.

The participants include well-known personalities such as Nele Kießling, Marvin Meinold and Dr. Christian Möller and Martin Knabenreich. Dr. Christian Möller, the deputy director of the Historical Museum, brings his extensive knowledge of “city and region history” to the discussion. He has been working at the museum since 2022 and is responsible for exhibitions, collections and research. Martin Knabenreich, Managing Director of Bielefeld Marketing since 2015, will also take part in the discussion. He is dedicated to the perception of the city and its future development.

A variety of events in the Historical Museum

But this is not the only event that will soon take place at the Bielefeld Historical Museum. From April 22nd to 25th there will be the performance “Magic, Myths and Modern Miracles” as part of the theater holidays, which is already fully booked. A workshop on designing “Stylish Cell Phone Cases” on April 24th and the “Night Views 2025” on April 26th, which offer an evening full of music, fashion and live performance, are also on the program. This event day will be accessible free of charge.

In May there are a variety of other program items that visitors can find. For example, the special exhibition “Family Laboratory” will open on May 3rd in cooperation with Bielefeld University. City tours and memorial events are also planned. A notable highlight will be a lecture on May 15th about the “End of the War in Bielefeld: History and Memory of April 4th, 1945”.

News from the Historical Museum

The Historical Museum itself has undergone extensive changes in recent years. New departments have been set up since 2014. The Middle Ages section in particular shows finds that come from excavations in 2004. In addition, the 19th century department is receiving significant attention with significant new additions.

Another exciting aspect is the presentation of previously unknown film material of the landing of a Zeppelin in the Senne in 1938, an event that was watched by more than 100,000 spectators. The museum also completely redesigned its foyer and created a newly created area called “Forum” for smaller special exhibitions.

The “Young Museum” is aimed specifically at families and school classes. It offers space for smaller exhibition projects and an open area to make your visit to the museum interactive and reflective.

With a newly designed tour, visitors can gain a chronological overview of Bielefeld's city history. The museum aims to promote knowledge of city and regional history, which is hardly covered in many schools. A development that is intended to strengthen both historical awareness and cultural identity in Bielefeld.
