Information about ancient history
In Ancient History, there have recently been irregularities in the certification of the “Free Event”. Students are now requested to submit the required, pre-filled form well before the start of the course. This is currently done by email via the secretariat of the University of Frankfurt. In addition, proof of ancient history must be presented when registering for the state examination, as Frank Bernstein and Hartmut Leppin emphasize.
Furthermore, research in ancient history illuminates various topics. Current third-party funded projects deal, among other things, with political structures in democratic Athens and the investigation of humorous traditions in late antiquity. These research projects aim to deepen the understanding of social and political dynamics in ancient societies.
Some of these projects include:
| Project name | goal | Project manager | funding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anti-establishment ideology in democratic Athens | Understanding political power and leadership in Athens in the 5th and 4th centuries B.C. B.C | Matteo Barbato (AvH Foundation) | €64,080 |
| Laughter and jest in Late Antiquity | Examination of humor as an anthropological constant and culturally variable forms | Georgios Deligiannakis (AvH Foundation) | €9,000 |
| Slavery and Social Mobility in The Greek World, 800-350 BC | Challenging the notion of a stratified society in the ancient Greek world | Marios Anastasiadis (DAAD) | €14,400 |
| The Roman comitial procedure of the late republican period and its role in political life | Examination of the political debate and functionality of the comity proceedings | Vyacheslav Khrustalev (DAAD) | €6,525 |
| Post-truth in pre-modern communities? | Unspecified | Christopher Degelmann (Daimler and Benz Foundation) | €40,000 |
These developments demonstrate not only the diversity and depth of the academic landscape at Bielefeld University, but also the ongoing contribution to research and teaching in the field of ancient history.
