Campus Run 2025: Torch relay and sporting highlights await!
On May 28, 2025, the campus of the Technical University of Dortmund will host the 39th Campus Run, which traditionally attracts a large number of participants. The start and finish area is at Martin-Schmeißer-Platz, and the officially measured route of 2.5 kilometers leads across the picturesque North Campus. Depending on the discipline, participants can choose between one and four rounds.
A special highlight will be the costumed groups at the 5 km run. But the focus isn't just on having fun while moving. Ambitious runners have the opportunity to win the Campus Champs title in the 5 km, 10 km and Mathetower Run categories. The registration deadline for those interested is May 29th. Late registrations are possible online from May 30th and on the day of the event up to an hour before the start, although the number of start numbers is limited.
FISU Games Torch Relay
The event day is made particularly exciting by the integration of the campus run into the torch relay of the FISU Games, which will be held in the Ruhr area in July. As part of this sporting event, athletes from all over the world will compete for medals in 18 sports from July 16th to 27th, 2025. The FISU Games, formerly known as the Universiade, are the largest multi-sport event after the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
A total of over 8,500 athletes from universities around the world are expected, supported by around 12,000 volunteers. The event focuses on sustainability, innovation and intercultural exchange and will take place in 23 venues in the Ruhr area. The nomination for the torch relay has already been made: David Keefer, a rower with a silver medal from the 2023 FISU Games, and Karolina Haas, a talented athlete in the perspective squad, will carry the torch. There was also a competition for TU students to get another place in the relay.
Traffic restrictions and on-site actions
The event will also cause some traffic disruptions. On Otto-Hahn-Straße there will be a partial closure between Vogelpothsweg and Friedrich-Wöhler-Weg in the westerly direction on the day of the event. There is also a parking ban on Otto-Hahn-Straße from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Vehicles that are parked incorrectly will be towed. The use of entrances and exits will also be restricted.
In this moment of anticipation, the organizers are preparing for a variety of information and activities related to the FISU Games that will make the sporting event even more lively. The event will not only mark a sporting but also a cultural highlight before the big competitions begin.
Preparations for the FISU Games 2025, which will take place in Germany for the first time since Duisburg 1989, are in full swing. This means that the FISU Games are not just a competition, but also a symbol of international exchange and shared enthusiasm for sport.
