Digital future: New learning offering for schools in Münsterland launched!
On August 1, 2025, the “FoodMaps go School” project was launched at the University of Münster, which offers a new digital teaching and learning offering for upper secondary schools. Developed in collaboration with MExLab ExperiMINTe as well as the Institute for Geography and the Institute for Didactics of Geography at the University of Münster, the project receives support from the Sparkasse Münsterland Ost Foundation.
As part of the project, “story maps” are created that deal with current nutrition issues. These multimedia learning formats include texts, images, videos, audio files and links to make it easier for students to access nutrition-related content. The aim of the project is to support the promotion of digital skills and critical thinking so that students can develop knowledge independently. It also enables them to recognize global and regional connections and to develop an understanding of challenges such as supply chains and food production.
Multimedia learning formats and their importance
The “Story Maps” should be available to schools in eastern Münsterland from mid-2026. They offer an innovative framework to delve into the topic of nutrition and develop alternative courses of action. Especially in times when young people are increasingly growing up digitally, it is crucial that teaching content is not only conveyed, but also made interactive.
Similarly, digital teaching has evolved in other subjects. An example of this is the “Take a deep breath and get started” offer for seventh and eighth graders in German. This digital learning offering aims to prepare students for presentations by providing motivating exercises that help reduce inhibitions. The introduction of digital formats in particular has revolutionized learning and opened up new ways to design lessons.
- Sichere Auftreten bei Referaten trainieren
- Interaktive Chatbot-Interaktionen zur Unterstützung des Leseverständnisses
- Lehrkräfte müssen Lernentwicklungen der Schüler kontinuierlich im Blick haben
It is important that teachers use innovative formats in digital teaching that promote direct exchange, which has particularly come into focus due to the experiences of the Corona crisis. The role of teachers remains crucial, as they not only have to decide on suitable formats, but should also ensure learning progress in virtual space.
Growing importance of digital learning offerings
The platform digital-learning-offers.de shows the far-reaching development of digital learning resources. It offers a wide collection of digital offerings and allows users to filter them by school level, subject area and cost. This development is particularly important at a time when digital education is becoming more important than ever. The project is a follow-up initiative to homeschooling-corona.com, which was launched during the pandemic to support parents and teachers in homeschooling.
The platform has already been visited hundreds of thousands of times and has received valuable feedback from the community. Offerings cover a range of topics from coding to communication platforms and are a valuable resource for classroom and home learning.
