Honor for professor: Schneider receives German Psychology Prize 2025!
On October 10, 2025, Prof. Dr. Silvia Schneider awarded the German Psychology Prize 2025 in Berlin. This recognition recognizes their outstanding scientific work for the benefit of young people. The award ceremony took place in a ceremony at the Rhineland-Palatinate state representation, accompanied by a panel discussion dedicated to improving living conditions for children and young people.
Schneider has been a professor of clinical child and adolescent psychology at the Ruhr University since 2010 and has headed the research and treatment center for mental health at the same university since 2012. Since 2021, she has also been coordinating the Bochum-Marburg location at the German Center for Mental Health (DZPG) and has been the spokesperson for the entire DZPG network since May 2025.
Scientific merits and commitment
The German Psychological Society describes Schneider as a “pioneer in the research and treatment of mental illnesses in children and adolescents.” Their commitment to transferring scientific findings into practice makes it possible to give young people a voice. She is actively involved in the DZPG's Urban Mental Health Project, which examines the mental health of children and adolescents in urban areas.
Schneider has also taken the initiative to establish children's and youth councils for mental health and to develop offers of help for families in stressful life situations. The German Psychology Prize, which is endowed with 10,000 euros and is awarded every two years, is offered by various institutions, including the Professional Association of German Psychologists.
Awards ceremonies and important personalities
In addition, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Reese received the German Psychology Prize 2025 for his achievements in environmental psychology. He has conducted important studies on the social and systemic factors that influence commitment to climate and conservation. His research includes the areas of environmental and conservation psychology and social identity. His work is characterized by innovative approaches, such as the use of virtual reality to initiate behavioral changes.
Both prize winners show how diverse and important psychology is for society. Schneider and Reese make significant contributions to scientific discourse and to improving the quality of life in their respective fields, as evidenced by their extensive work and initiatives.
Through the work of scientists like Schneider and Reese, German psychology has an important social responsibility and offers solutions to pressing questions, either in the area of children's mental health or in dealing with ecological challenges.
