Discover the fascinating diversity of science: 32 events await!

In the period from April to September 2025, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) is planning a multifaceted program that includes 32 events on the topics of research, art and culture. Loud HHU This offer aims to strengthen dialogue with society and promote trust in scientific research. Rector Anja Steinbeck emphasizes that the university wants to act as an open forum for knowledge and discussion, which underlines the relevance of such events.

The formats range from lecture series and discussion forums to experimental formats such as science slams and a philosophical lecture series called “denXte”. Established lecture series such as “Research in Focus” and “oeconomicum live” will enrich the program. The events include titles such as “Research in Focus: Perception in Motion” and “denXte: What triggers us and why?”, as well as exciting topics such as the (media) phenomenon of true crime and an exhibition entitled “An infinitely dark legacy”.

True Crime: A fascinating but critical genre

A central topic of the courses will be the phenomenon of true crime, which is characterized by great public interest. Loud Benecke True crime is present in various media formats, including series, films, podcasts and books. The fascination with true stories of murder and crime is closely linked to a voyeuristic interest that deeply permeates society.

However, the genre operates in ethical gray areas as it often serves sensationalism and is accused of treating the experiences of victims and their relatives questionably. Interest in true crime can fuel distrust of the justice system and increase general fear of crime.

Another notable phenomenon is the amateur detective movements that are emerging on internet forums such as Reddit. These groups deal with cold cases and unsolved cases, which illustrates the complexity of the topic.

Event details and participation

Most of the planned events at HHU are free, but some require prior registration. Those interested can download the programs both in printed form at the university and digitally via the website. Tamara Karvang is available as a contact person for further information. She can be reached by email at tamara.karvang(at)hhu.de or by telephone at 0211-81 12130.

The HHU's comprehensive program is not only an invitation to participate in the knowledge dialogue, but also an opportunity to deal with current social issues such as true crime and to continue discussions about their ethical dimensions.
