The celebrated on May 14, 2025 FernUniversität in Hagen their graduates with an emotional ceremony. The event brought together a diverse mix of former students who received degrees from various faculties, including mathematics and computer science, law and economics.
The alumni celebration reflected the diversity of the students who followed individual paths in life during their studies. Particularly noteworthy was the speech by Manuela Wienhauer, graduate of the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences. Wienhauer, who expanded her digital skills during the Corona pandemic, spoke about her master's degree in Education & Media: eEducation and emphasized the flexibility that studying at the FernUni offers.
Academic values and personal development
Rector Prof. Dr. Stefan Stuermer congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the founding idea of the FernUniversität: academic education for people who need alternative educational paths. In his speech, Sturmer emphasized the importance of skills such as changing perspectives, independence and courage.
Erik O. Schulz, the mayor of Hagen, wanted the graduates to represent the FernUniversität and the city in the future. The emotional highlights of the event were enhanced by musician Joy Bach, who completed the evening with her soulful interpretation of the classic “What a Wonderful World”.
A network for the future
The FernUniversität's alumni celebrations not only attract students from all over Germany, but also international graduates. A wide range of opportunities for further professional qualification and regular information through a newsletter are offered. The alumni database gives former students access to current information and invitations to further events.
Furthermore, it supports Career Services not only students, but also alumni in achieving their career goals and offers a job board that is geared towards job searches. The FernUniversität in Hagen thus shows itself to be an active companion in the lifelong learning of its graduates and a member of a community that is constantly growing.
In addition, registering in the Alumni Circle of the Society of Friends of the FernUniversität enables exchange and networking among alumni. The FernUniversität is also active in social networks and offers its alumni the opportunity to network via platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, YouTube and LinkedIn.
