Sustainability in sport

In addition to the enthusiasm for sport, the World University Games also places a strong focus on sustainability. The FISU World Conference 2025 will take place under the motto “Competing for Change: Exploring Sustainability and (Mental) Health through Sports”. This conference addresses important topics at the intersection of physical performance, (mental) health and environmental sustainability.

The subtopics include mental health aspects and pressure to perform among athletes, as well as the challenges of work-life balance for high-performance trainers and referees. The importance of ecological sustainability initiatives on university campuses is also highlighted.

In a rapidly changing world, these issues are particularly relevant. The students, who often face academic and athletic pressures, are at the center of the discussion. The goal is to develop comprehensive strategies that not only improve athletic performance, but also promote sustainable practices and create support networks. This could create healthier, more balanced communities.

Overall, it remains to be seen how the event will develop and what results will emerge from the combination of sport and sustainability as preparations for the World University Games are in full swing.
