Folkwang Prize 2025: Talented artists celebrate at a brilliant gala!
On June 30, 2025, the Folkwang Prize Gala took place at the Folkwang University of the Arts, which is organized by the Society of Friends and Supporters of the Folkwang University of the Arts e.V. (GFFF). This prestigious event aims to recognize outstanding achievements by students from various artistic disciplines. The Folkwang Prize, which was awarded for the 67th time this year, is an important support for young talent and has been awarded since 1958. The GFFF is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, underlining the long-standing tradition of supporting the arts in Germany.
A total of 13 main and special prizes were awarded in a festive ceremony in front of numerous guests. The main prizes of 2,000 euros each were awarded to students in the fields of music, performing arts, jazz, musicology and design. The special prizes, each worth 1,000 euros, also honored first-class achievements in specific categories.

The role of the arts in society
The gala was attended by Mayor Thomas Kufen and Rector Holger Zebu Kluth. Both spoke positively about the events and their important role in society. The importance of the arts and the support of talented young artists were emphatically highlighted during the gala. A special highlight of the gala was the presentation of selected works by the award-winning students, which included musical performances as well as creative projects in the areas of photography and design. Such presentations underline the valuable connection between academic knowledge and practical artistic implementation.
The Folkwang Prize Gala is not only a significant honor for the students, but also a symbol of the close connection between art and society. The GFFF's activities and award ceremonies strengthen cultural discourse and promote the young artists of tomorrow, who often act as catalysts for innovation and social change. The importance of these awards for Germany's artistic landscape is therefore not overestimated.
