Universities in North Rhine-Westphalia: Support for students with doubts!
In North Rhine-Westphalia, around 30 universities have initiated a special program for students with doubts about their studies. The aim is to offer students support and orientation. The Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) will be part of this offer and is hosting two central events on the topic.
The “move! Info Day” will take place on March 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the HHU Student Service Center (SSC). Here, participants have the opportunity to take part in a panel discussion on the topic of “Questions and errors surrounding doubts about their studies”. Advice is also offered by experts, including representatives from Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, the Düsseldorf Employment Agency and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This event is intended to help students clarify their concerns and questions about their studies.
Online event to reflect on doubts about your studies
Another important event organized by the HHU is the online event entitled “Undoubtedly – Experience Reports on the Subject of Study Doubts”. This will take place on March 25, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. No registration is required for this event and anyone interested can use the dial-in link hhu.webex.com/hhu/j.php participate.
Graduate psychologist Agnes Kott from the HHU student advisory service emphasizes how important it is to seek support in good time if you have doubts. The events offer a platform for reflecting on personal situations and help to develop new perspectives. Doubts about studies often result from a discrepancy between the hoped-for course content and the content actually taught.
Common causes of study doubts
The reasons for doubts about your studies can be varied. Students often report a high workload that leads to excessive demands, or they experience an overly theoretical design of the course content that does not meet their expectations. Such factors can lead to a loss of connection with studies. Bochum University informs that many students should seek advice and support in such moments in order to clarify their situation and show perspectives.
The FH Dortmund offers similar support for those who doubt their studies. Through open telephone consultations and individual consultations, students can receive help in finding the cause, reorienting or reorienting themselves and making decisions. This advice enables students to find specific contacts and plan their next steps.
Overall, the initiatives of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia help ensure that students with doubts receive the necessary support. Both the HHU events and the advisory services offered by other universities provide an important point of contact for those seeking advice.
