Krefeld in rowing fever: Students shine at university championships!

The German University Rowing Championships took place at Lake Elfrath in Krefeld from July 4th to 6th, 2025. Over 600 students from all over Germany took part in this important event. The German Sport University Cologne was able to welcome 18 participants under the direction of Dr. Stefan Mühl will compete in several competitions.

The Cologne team competed with three mixed foursomes and one women's foursome. Despite the mixed rowing conditions, two mixed foursomes managed to qualify for the upcoming World University Games. These games will be held on July 26th and 27th, 2025 on the regatta course in Duisburg.

Achievements and awards

Particularly noteworthy is the performance of the mixed foursome, consisting of Greta Loerwald, Jim Kilic, Patrick Pulskamp and Felicia Schwab, who won the bronze medal in the final. The team received warm congratulations for their successful performance and was motivated for the upcoming races at the World University Games. Meanwhile, the FHSMP prepared for the upcoming Triple Rowing Championships. These championships, which will take place from July 12th to 14th, 2024 in Werder (Havel), include the German University Championships, the Open German Masters Championships and the German Championships in rowing in medium and large boats. Students from the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences for Sport and Management are actively involved in the planning and organization of this event FHSMP reported.

A successful Masters Championship

In advance of the university championships, the DRV Masters Championships took place in Werder (Havel) on the first weekend of June 2024, where rowers from Germany, the Netherlands and Australia competed in age group races over 1,000 meters. Both local clubs and international participants came together. Despite an interruption due to a thunderstorm and damage to the buoy system caused by motorboats, the regatta was carried out successfully.

Mayor Manuela Saß honored the winners on Sunday, while medals and gifts were presented by double Olympic champion Kerstin Hartleib. There was also a round of discussions with club representatives from the Werder (Havel) rowing club, who discussed the upcoming triple championships. Also Dr. Kristin Wick from ESAB University of Applied Sciences was present and followed the exciting competitions.

Preparations for the World Rowing Masters Regatta, which will take place in Brandenburg an der Havel from September 11th to 15th, 2024, are also in full swing. Around 1,000 athletes have already registered and a number of around 4,000 participants is expected. Many participants in the Masters Championship are planning to return in July and September, which makes the city of Werder (Havel) and the RKW very excited.

The German University Championships were not only an important platform for those involved in rowing, but also an important step into the next season, in which the athletes can set off for international competitions with fresh experiences and successes.
