Art in focus: Orbit” exhibition inspires in Essen!
The Folkwang University of the Arts is preparing for an exciting exhibition series called “Orbit”, which will present the works of former and current photography students. This initiative is organized by Lorenza Kaib, Elke Seeger, professor of photography, and Larissa Zauser, a Folkwang student. As part of the “Blickfeld Zollverein” funding line, which represents a cooperation between Folkwang University and the Zollverein Foundation, the series aims to promote exchange between students and with the public folkwang-uni.de reported.
The first exhibition opens on May 21, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. The work of Luzie Marquardt and the student position of Lou Hackl are presented. The exhibition runs until June 1, 2025. Luzie Marquardt, a graduate who was born in Stuttgart in 1992, previously studied Scandinavian studies and photography at Folkwang University and graduated in 2020. Her thematic focus is on portraits and a subversive approach to the familiar.
Planned exhibitions and artists
Following the first exhibition, the second exhibition will take place with Josephine Scheuer and the student position of Farnaz Shahryari. This will open on June 12, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. and will run until June 22, 2025. Josephine Scheuer, born in Merzig in 1993, studied photography at Folkwang University and focuses on material values and possessions.
The third exhibition is dedicated to Faeghe Kordestani and will open on July 10, 2025. This presentation, which will be on view until July 20, 2025, presents the works of Kordestani, who was born in Iran in 1981 and deals with the themes of home, origins and belonging. In addition, the student position of Pluto is presented in this exhibition.
“Orbit” as a cultural meeting point
The former switch house 2.0 at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site serves as a new exhibition location. Since the 2024/2025 winter semester, this room has been used for events and exhibitions, thereby promoting dialogue between students and alumni.
