Rethinking art funding: Exciting projects for students in 2025!

The Montepulciano College of Music and Art has launched an extensive program for students from various creative disciplines in 2025. This includes several projects ranging from interdisciplinary exchange to artistic development. The application deadline for the first events is ending soon, and interested artists are invited to apply to take part.

A central element of the program is the “Students in Residence 2025” offer. This program is aimed at ensembles, small groups and individual artists and consists of an intensive one-week work phase. This serves the further development or completion of artistic projects. The stay periods for ensembles and small groups are fromJune 8th to 15th, 2025scheduled, while individual projects between theJuly 13 and 20, 2025can be realized. An additional period for everyone is fromSeptember 28th to October 5th, 2025provided. Applications for this are open untilMarch 15, 2025possible. Workshops and interdisciplinary projects

Another highlight is the “SummerLab 2025”, which is organized byJuly 13th to 20th, 2025takes place in Montepulciano. Here, students from the fields of music and dance as well as related disciplines are invited to take part in workshops led by renowned lecturers such as Ariadne Daskalakis from the Cologne University of Music and Dance and Stephan Brinkmann from the Folkwang University of the Arts Essen. This event is integrated into the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano. The application deadline ends onApril 15, 2025.

In addition, fromSeptember 14th to 26th, 2025the “Laboratory of the Arts 2025” was carried out. This interdisciplinary annual project brings together teachers from all seven art and music colleges in North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim is to develop and implement artistic projects in Montepulciano, with interdisciplinary working groups encouraging creative exchange. Chamber music and current projects in Cologne

There is also a special focus on the “Chamber Music Week 2025”, which is being held bySeptember 28th to October 5th, 2025will take place. It is aimed at advanced students of chamber and instrumental music and offers the opportunity to work intensively in mixed ensembles. The application phase begins in May 2025. In parallel to these projects, the Center for Contemporary Dance at the Cologne University of Music and Dance is offering an exciting project called “Transcendentia”. This arose from a cooperation between the Center for Contemporary Dance and the Fashion Department at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. It aims to explore the performative use of costumes and question normative gender identities. Students from the Digital Media and Experiment as well as Fashion Design degree programs are working together on this innovative project.

The collaboration includes lecturers such as Prof. Dr. Sevi Bayraktar and Prof. Jan Burkhardt from the HfMT Cologne as well as Prof. Philipp Rupp and Prof. Herwig Scherabon from the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. The aim is to illuminate the interface between dance, digital and fashion.
