Master's degree programs at the UW/H: Future skills for managers!
In a significant step towards developing future leaders, the University of Witten/Herdecke (UW/H) revised its master's programs in Management (M. Sc.) and PPE - Philosophy, Politics & Economics (M. A.). These adjustments are based on the common theme of “Leadership & Transformation,” which prepares students to master challenges in business and politics.
Dean Prof. Dr. Dirk Sauerland emphasizes that the aim of the degree programs is to promote clever ideas and courageous actions. The Master in Management in particular is aimed at those who want to lead companies and organizations. Students can focus on different areas, such as family business, strategic or organizational management.
Interdisciplinarity and research opportunities
In addition, the interdisciplinary master's program PPE (M.A.) offers a comprehensive insight into current economic, political and ethical issues. Participants have the opportunity to choose between an application-oriented and a research-oriented research track. The latter provides targeted preparation for a doctorate, and a new doctoral program starts in the winter semester of 2025/26. This program promises individual support, binding schedules and qualification offers to promote the scientific quality and personal development of doctoral students.
Applications for the master's degree programs are possible all year round, with the latest date for the winter semester being August 15th. The offer is particularly attractive thanks to the early bird advantage: applications received by June 15th are free of charge.
The role of change management in the new educational concept
The challenges that arise in the area of change management and transformation are also addressed in the degree programs. A change manager who accompanies transformation processes in companies emphasizes the importance of people's willingness to change. “Soft” factors can create barriers that hinder change. Kammerer and her colleagues advise decision-makers and managers on how to successfully navigate these processes. Knowledge of project management and change methods is essential.
The concept of change management can be deepened through further training, for example Leadership and Change Management diploma course, which is structured in eight modules. These modules cover comprehensive topics, from the principles of management and digital leadership to emotional management and change communication.
| modules | Theme | Length of time |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Successful management | 50 hours |
| 2 | Leadership and communication | 50 hours |
| 3 | Ethical Leadership and Decision Making | 50 hours |
| 4 | Leadership in the digital age | 50 hours |
| 5 | Strategic design of change | 50 hours |
| 6 | Successful change processes in companies | 50 hours |
| 7 | Approaches and instruments of change management | 50 hours |
| 8 | Emotions and change communication | 50 hours |
Each module ends with an online multiple-choice exam. This comprehensive structure is intended to provide not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills that are essential in today's working world.
