Masterclasses and concerts: Musical experience in Duisburg!

The will load on June 10, 2025 Folkwang University of the Arts in Duisburg for an exciting master class. This takes place in the Small Concert Hall and is led by the talented violinist Suyeon Kang. Participation is open to Folkwang University students as well as other interested parties who would like to take part in the teaching units and the final concert.

The master classes begin on Tuesday, June 17th and offer opportunities to actively engage with music every three days. The teaching units take place in the morning and afternoon, and the final concert will be celebrated on Thursday, June 19th at 7:30 p.m.

Overall, the week is characterized by a combination of creative learning opportunities and public events. The successful concept of collaboration with the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, who not only act as partners, but also promote a continuous exchange between orchestral music and chamber music. Admission to the final concert costs 11 euros, reduced price 6.50 euros. Tickets are available in advance.

In the 2024/2025 season, the master class is aimed particularly at string trios and string quartets. Lecturer Suyeon Kang has had a remarkable career that has taken her across different countries and musical traditions. Born in South Korea and raised in Canada and Australia, she studied in Germany and brought her talents to the training of young musicians. Her extensive experience as a soloist and chamber musician is complemented by her role as a lecturer at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, where she has worked since 2023.

Folkwang University has a long-standing tradition of promoting chamber music, early music and piano, which have been located at the Duisburg campus since 2002. These initiatives have led to important teachers being appointed to the university, thereby promoting comprehensive musical training in solo playing and orchestral work. The Rectors' Conference of the German Music Universities highlights the role of such institutions that not only strengthen artistic education, but also actively support young talent.
