Münster is calling: Falling Walls Lab competition for innovative minds!

Next September 11th, the “Falling Walls Lab Münster” competition will take place at the port of Münster, which is designed as an important preliminary decision for northwest Germany. The competition offers talented students, bachelor's and master's graduates, as well as doctoral candidates and postdocs from all disciplines a platform to present their innovative projects. Participants have the opportunity to present their ideas to a jury and audience in three minutes.

How uni-muenster.de reports, the “Falling Walls Lab” evaluates both the innovation potential and the social impact of the approaches. Applicants from other universities are expressly welcome and the application deadline is August 15th.

Preparation for the competition

In order to take part in the competition, those interested must meet some formal requirements. This includes either being currently enrolled at a university or having a bachelor's degree that is no more than ten years old. Master's graduates whose degree is not older than seven years, as well as postdoctoral scientists whose PhD is not older than five years, are also allowed to apply. MD degrees and Dr. med. are considered equal, with global diversity of academic qualifications recognized. Confirmation that no previous participation in the Falling Walls Lab has taken place is also required. If you have any questions about the application, you can contact us by email falling-walls.com seek.

The competition takes place in the “FIEGE X-Dock”, whose address is Am Mittelhafte 32. The winner of the laboratory will qualify for the grand finale at the “Falling Walls Science Summit,” which will take place in Berlin from November 6th to 9th. This event brings together national and international guests from the fields of science, politics, civil society, business and media to celebrate the “Science Breakthroughs of the Year”.

International science communication

The “Falling Walls Science Summit” is not just a competition, but also an influential place for knowledge exchange. The aim of this summit, in which the University of Münster is involved as a partner, is to discuss innovative approaches to solving global challenges and to create new networks. The German Research Foundation (DFG) supports such international scientific events in Germany in order to support the organization of conferences and meetings with internationally-specific speakers.

The DFG provides grants for these events, which depend on the number of participating scientists with doctorates. Support for travel expenses for foreign speakers is also granted, although the application form must be submitted no later than six months before the start of the event. The DFG also supports annual conferences that can only be supported every two years, which underlines the importance of such events.
