Sustainability in focus: TU Dortmund awards Impact Cup 2025!

On May 22, 2025, the Impact Cup for sustainable commitment was awarded in the kostBar on the FH Dortmund campus. Prof. Gerhard Schembecker, Vice Rector for Finance, presented this award to the Sustainability Commission of the Faculty of Computer Science at TU Dortmund University. This commission is made up of professors, employees and students and has been coordinating numerous projects to promote sustainable action in teaching and research for three years.

In the run-up to the award ceremony, Sustainability Week took place on campus from May 19 to 22, 2025. This included an extensive program with workshops, lectures as well as action and information stands and was free and open to anyone interested. Dr. Henning Moldenhauer, head of the TU Sustainability Office, emphasized the diversity of commitments to sustainable development at the university.

In order to recognize the progress in the area of ​​sustainable procurement at the FH Dortmund, the Purchasing team at the FH Dortmund received a special award. The team works closely on sustainable procurement guidelines and engages in participatory processes for sustainable development. It is active in networks at state and federal level to make public sector procurement sustainable. Official communication of these efforts creates opportunities for all employees to participate.

Focus on education for sustainability

A central building block in sustainable development is education for sustainable development, as defined in programs such as FONA (Research for Sustainable Development) and the UNESCO program “Education for Sustainable Development” (ESD 2030). These programs offer an integrated and systems-oriented approach to developing innovative concepts for sustainability challenges. The federal government has committed to submitting a report in each legislative period in order to evaluate the status and development of ESD.

The Impact Cup award ceremony, organized by the employees of the Sustainability Office and the CSR Office of the two universities, was an opportunity to celebrate joint successes in promoting sustainable commitment. The trophies were designed by TU trainees in the area of ​​technical product design and represent a floating metal watering can above a green plant, which symbolizes the topic of sustainability. Such initiatives impressively demonstrate how universities can contribute to ecological and social sustainability through diverse commitment.
