New leadership strength: Prof. Dr. Inga Gryl heads the GDSU!
On March 18, 2025, the Society for Didactics of Subject Teaching (GDSU) elected a new chairwoman: Prof. Dr. Inga Gryl, who works as an expert in didactics of subject teaching at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). She will lead the association over the next two years together with a team of scientists from Germany and Austria. This appointment demonstrates the GDSU's ongoing focus on strengthening and further developing content education in German-speaking countries.
The GDSU is an interdisciplinary professional society with over 600 members from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Its primary goal is to promote subject matter teaching and its didactics. This also includes responsibility for the conception and regular updating of the “perspective framework for non-fiction teaching”. This framework defines the fundamental goals and content of the subject and contributes to quality assurance in the educational sector.
The role of the perspective frame
The perspective framework not only includes the educational demands of subject teaching, but also a comprehensive competency model. Current developments and topics
The GDSU has also been actively involved in educational policy issues. Positions on important social issues such as democracy and the shift to the right as well as artificial intelligence (AI) were recently formulated. The society also organizes an annual conference that attracts over 400 participants each year.
The society also supports scientists in qualification phases and offers support in the development of materials and evaluation methods. This initiative underlines the importance of high-quality teacher training in the subject area.
