New qualification program at RUB: teachers fit for the future!

The Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) is launching a new university didactic qualification program on October 1, 2025, which is intended to offer teachers practical impulses. With over 30 workshops and additional English-language offerings as part of the UNIC project, the program was opened for registration on August 25th. A special feature is the connection to the HD-NRW network, which enables access to events from 16 other universities. The new offer is intended to help develop creative ideas and new methods for teaching and to comprehensively tie in with the current educational reality.

The revision of the basic module ensures that all areas of the Center for Continuing Education are represented from the start. New topics such as scientific writing in the context of artificial intelligence have been added. The structure of the workshops includes both full and half workshop days, which makes it easier to combine work and family obligations. The main topics at the RUB range from supporting students with psychological problems to equitable examinations.

Interdisciplinary exchange and individual advice

Participants in the program benefit not only from interdisciplinary but also from discipline-specific exchange. Personal contact across subject boundaries promotes the development of individual teaching skills. External lecturers from member universities of the NRW University Didactics Network can pay a participation fee of 50 euros for all-day workshops, while half-day offers cost 25 euros. Participants of the Medical Didactics NRW certificate enjoy special advantages, as they can have up to 120 hours credited towards the university didactics qualification program.

The program itself consists of 200 work units (AE) of 45 minutes each and covers a variety of university didactic topics. Research-based learning and teaching observation remain part of the qualification offer, while the expansion module also includes practice-oriented training on Teaching Analysis Polls (TAP). This contributes to the qualitative interim evaluation of teaching.

Certificates for teachers

The Ruhr University attaches great importance to the university didactics qualification of its teachers, which underlines the importance of teaching as one of the core areas alongside research. As part of the program, participants can acquire a didactically oriented certificate that is recognized throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, structured programs are offered that cover both theoretical and practical backgrounds for teaching and learning. The focus is on the personal role of the teachers and the application of modern methods of university didactics.

The qualification program is part of a comprehensive approach to further training in teaching.
