New studyPORT: The digital revolution for studying in Hagen!

On October 1, 2025, the revised information offering was published studyPORT started at the FernUniversität Hagen. This one-stop shop for students now offers over 30 digital applications, more than double the previous number of 14. The comprehensive overhaul of the portal was carried out in close collaboration between the studyPORT team, the Center for Digital Learning and the University Service Center.

The new studyPORT is intended to offer better orientation and support in distance learning, especially to first-semester students. The tools offered include essential applications such as Moodle, the examination portal and the Virtual University as well as optional offers such as Citavi, Sciebo and the FernUni app as well as Microsoft 365 Apps. Each tool comes with a compact description and detailed information, supplemented by useful links.

Optimized user experience

Special features of studyPORT are the filter functions, which enable a targeted search for categories such as study organization, academic work and means of communication. An A-Z search is also available to make navigation easier. The entire offer is accessible without login, only some services require registration with the FernUni login data. This allows easy access to many other services, whether on a PC, tablet or smartphone, which increases user-friendliness in the digital study world.

Dr. Cristina Pozo Vicente, who leads the “Teaching: Innovating Online Teaching” project, has continuously improved the quality of distance learning since 2017. Students such as Natalie Frede and Julia Zimmer commented positively on studyPORT's new offerings, pointing to the high level of user-friendliness and adaptation to the needs of the learners. Loud university today the project represents a further step towards modernizing teaching operations.

Students and course offerings

The FernUniversität in Hagen is the largest state university in Germany with around 70,000 students and the only distance learning university in the country. It offers flexible, location- and time-independent study in areas such as mathematics/computer science, law, economics, cultural and social sciences, and psychology. Compared to private distance learning universities, the tuition fees at the FernUniversität are lower, making it an attractive option for many students. Over 90 providers of distance learning courses in Germany illustrate the growing importance of this form of learning.

The introduction of studyPORT is an example of the FernUniversität's efforts to meet the requirements of an increasingly digitalized educational landscape. With modern tools and a user-friendly platform, the university wants to ensure that students are best prepared for their academic journey.
