NFDI4Culture Music Award: Apply and secure up to 3,000 euros!

The NFDI4Culture Music Award offers music enthusiasts an exciting opportunity to present their academic projects and work in the field of musicology. University of Paderborn reports that students, scientists and cultural workers can apply for the award until November 9, 2024. Funding of up to 3,000 euros is available for the best submissions.

The award aims to recognize projects that address the goals of the “NFDI4Culture” project, which is part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). This initiative deals with the development and networking of data sets from various scientific areas. Particular attention is paid to the sustainable archiving and making available of music-related data.

Eligible topics and support offers

We are looking for projects on topics such as the (further) development of standards for data formats and research software, the sustainable archiving of (research) data and strategies for dealing with personality and copyright issues. The TIB (Technical Information Library) actively supports these initiatives by contributing to the standardization and long-term availability of research data, as [TIB] learns.

The NFDI4Culture Music Award is presented in two categories: The Qualification Award, which offers up to 1,500 euros for completed work such as master's or doctoral theses, and the Project Award for scientific or artistic projects with a funding amount of up to 3,000 euros. The support also includes a helpdesk that helps applicants identify relevant points of connection between their projects and the consortium's objectives.

Submission details and jury

Applications can be submitted by email to coordination-office@nfdiculture.de. A jury made up of specialist representatives from “NFDI4Culture”, the Society for Music Research and the University of Paderborn will create a shortlist and choose the winners of the award.

The project funds are earmarked and must be used in the calendar year 2026. The focus of NFDI4Culture is on the efficient use of research data to optimize scientific work in cultural studies. The NFDI has the overarching goal of collecting and using data as a common asset for excellent research in Germany, which includes collaboration between national and international partners, as [NFDI] describes.
