As part of the annual “Rector of the Year 2025” election by the German University Association (DHV), Professor Dr. Stefanie Reese, Rector of the University of Siegen, achieved 10th place. The highlights of the ranking show that the top spot goes to Professor Dr. Manfred Bayer from the Technical University of Dortmund, who was awarded the title “Rector of the Year” for the second time idw-online.de. Bayer, which already received the award last year, was given a rating of 1.45 in an online survey of more than 33,500 DHV members. Around 68.4 percent of those who voted described him as “the ideal choice,” which illustrates his outstanding position. In his assessment, Bayer's leadership style is highlighted as strategic, integrative and solution-oriented.
Comparison of the rectors
Bayer is followed in the ranking by Professor Dr. Susanne Menzel-Riedl from the University of Osnabrück came in second place, receiving a grade of 1.79. Professor Dr. Kai Fischbach from the University of Bamberg takes third place with a grade of 1.82. Fourth and fifth places go to Professor Dr. Hauke Heekeren from the University of Hamburg and Professor Dr. Birgitta Wolff from the University of Wuppertal, who received grades of 1.93 and 2.06. The DHV rankings are not just sporting competitions; they also provide valuable insight into the leadership skills of university leaders.
