RUB students on the hunt for medals at the FISU World University Games!

Preparations for the 2025 FISU World University Games, which will take place from July 16 to 27 in the Ruhr area and Berlin, are in full swing. Germany will compete with its largest team to date of 305 athletes. Particularly noteworthy are the nine students from the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), who will present themselves in various disciplines. Ines Lenze, head of university sports in Bochum, leads the German delegation.

The RUB students include talents from various disciplines and sports:

Traditionally, the RUB is particularly strong in rowing. The men's foursome without a coxswain consists entirely of RUB students and is considered the favorite for the final. In addition, good placings are expected in the sports of swimming, tennis and athletics. The competition venues are diverse:

FISU World Conference 2025

The focus of the conference is:

  • Mentale Gesundheit und Leistungsdruck bei Athlet:innen
  • Work-Life-Balance und Resilienz bei Trainer:innen und Schiedsrichter:innen
  • Ökologische Nachhaltigkeit auf Universitätscampus
  • Förderung von Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden durch Sport

The conference is also an opportunity for students facing academic and athletic challenges to address important health issues. The aim is to develop comprehensive strategies to improve sports performance and promote sustainable practices.

Cultural events and exchanges

The Ruhr Games, which offer a multicultural festival, take place parallel to the conference. This opportunity will focus on edutainment opportunities, innovative hands-on activities and trendy sports. Workshops and cultural events promote exchange and discussion between participants.

Conference registration and ticket purchases begin on December 1, 2024 and continue until March 31, 2025. Further information will be published at a later date, while the abstract submission for papers will open in early October 2024. This conference is therefore not only a highlight of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, but also a significant step towards a healthier, more balanced community.
