Samsung launches innovation competition: sports and technology for youth!

Samsung’s “Solve for Tomorrow 2025” program began on May 20, 2025 with a kick-off at the German Sport University Cologne. The aim of the innovation competition, which is now entering its sixth round, is to promote social change, education and new perspectives by combining sport and technology. At the event, led by Professor Dr. Christoph Breuer, around 30 students from the Bachelor's degree program in Sports Management and Sports Communication (SMK) took part.

The focus of the kick-off event was the further development of ideas, group work and pitch phases. The participants had the opportunity to gain personal insights into the connection between sport and technology with top athletes such as Anna-Lena Forster and Finn Hösch. The program content is intended to inspire young people aged 16 to 25 and bring them into an active role in promoting social change through technology.

Promoting innovation and social change

The innovation competition is looking for creative ideas that use technologies such as networking, sensors or artificial intelligence to motivate people and promote cohesion. Samsung emphasizes the social impact that these technologies can have. As part of the program, participants receive workshops, individual mentoring and financial support to realize their projects.

The application phase for “Solve for Tomorrow” runs until June 16, 2025. The best ideas will be rewarded with a trip to the German House in Cortina during the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This not only represents significant recognition, but also an excellent opportunity for participants to present their concepts on an international stage.

Social aspects of sport

The “Solve for Tomorrow” program reflects the increasing recognition of sport as a tool for social cohesion and development. Sport is increasingly being used in educational programs and social projects to reach disadvantaged groups. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the United Nations has emphasized sport as a means of promoting education, health and peace since the early 2000s, which has been underscored through various initiatives such as the 2003 Resolution on the Promotion of Sport.

In Germany, around 28 million people are organized in sports clubs, which illustrates the central role of sport in society. The program also aims to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This includes aspects such as promoting education through sport (SDG 4) and supporting gender equality (SDG 5).

In summary, Solve for Tomorrow 2025 provides a platform to engage young people in social and technological innovation and give them the tools to create positive change in their communities. The program content and objectives clearly show that the connection between sport and technology can have far-reaching effects on society.
