The Studienfonds OWL Foundation announced today that the application period for the socially oriented scholarship begins in August 2025. Students and prospective students at five universities in East Westphalia-Lippe can apply until September 1, 2025. The funding is aimed particularly at financially needy students who rely on support during their studies.
The social scholarship offers financial aid of 150 euros per month for a period of more than one year. The total funding amounts to 1,800 euros per year, which is paid out in monthly installments. This scholarship aims to support students in special financial or personal situations that may jeopardize their studies. Target group and requirements
The target group includes relevant students and prospective students from Bielefeld University, Paderborn University, OWL University of Technology, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and the Detmold University of Music. The scholarships will be awarded for one year from October 1, 2025. Applicants must already be enrolled or start studying in the winter semester 2025/2026.
In order to qualify for the social scholarship, school and study achievements are of secondary importance, although there should be noticeable progress in your studies. Applications can only be made via an online form, which will be available from August 1st. The application deadline is September 1st at 11:59 p.m. An Instagram account @studienfondsowl will provide useful information on common applicant questions in August.
Ideal support program and network building
In addition to financial support, scholarship holders can take part in an extensive non-material support program. This includes workshops, lectures, company visits, the placement of internships and opportunities for networking with companies and institutions in the OWL region. This actively supports not only the academic but also the professional future of the recipients.
The Studienfonds OWL foundation is a cooperation project between the five state universities in Ostwestfalen-Lippe, North Rhine-Westphalia. Another program, the Deutschlandstipendium, also takes into account the students' social commitment and other personal circumstances. Both types of scholarships together aim to strengthen OWL as a university location and expand the network between sponsors and recipients, according to a report by hsbi.de.
