On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Folkwang Theater Festival will take place at the Folkwang Theater Center in Bochum. The event, which runs from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., opens its doors to anyone interested and offers a deep insight into the work of the institute's students. Admission is free and promises a varied program.
The Folkwang Theaterfest, which is being held for the sixth time after a break due to the pandemic, presents both the acting and directing courses. Students show excerpts from their current work, allowing visitors to experience first-hand what the creative process at the university looks like. There are also guest appearances by students from the fields of physical theater, musicals and dance.
Diverse program
The event program includes a variety of attractions. Small dance pieces from the “Young Choreographers” format are presented. The musical theater students also sing songs from musical literature. A special highlight is the first presentation of an interdisciplinary encounter between music and mask play, which was developed by Professor Thomas Rascher and Professor Aleksey Semenenko with their students.
The art of the masks and the musical performance are intended to merge together and offer visitors a unique experience. The Folkwang Theaterfest is also an excellent opportunity to find out more about the everyday life of theater and dance students and to observe their creative processes.
