Uni Baskets Münster celebrate a thrilling start to the season with a 79:76 victory!

On September 23, 2025, Rector Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels with the manager Helge Stuckenholz and the players Cosmo Grühn and Stefan Weß. The University of Münster reiterated its support for the Uni Baskets, who will play their first game of the season next Friday at the Artland Dragons. Wessels highlighted the core values ​​of the university and Baskets: ambition, commitment and fairness. A highlight of the meeting was the positive development of the players. Cosmo Grühn recently passed his first state law exam at the university, while Stefan Weß completed his master's degree in business informatics and now works at the "REACH - Euregio Start-up Center". The Uni Baskets' first home game is scheduled for October 4th at the Berg Fidel Hall, with only a few remaining season tickets available through the website until October 1st.

Preparation for the season

The Uni Baskets Münster recently completed a challenging and exciting preparation game. Surprisingly, they had to compete without Jason Ani, who was out due to a foot injury. The team still showed courage and perseverance. Adam Touray provided a spectacular basket in the first attack, followed by an aggressive defense that shined with numerous steals and fast breaks. In the fourth minute, the team took the lead 11:4 thanks to a three-point throw from Grühn.

Although Cologne was able to reduce their deficit immediately afterwards, Münster led 21:15 at the first quarter break. In the second quarter, however, the Münster team suffered setbacks due to ball losses and Cologne's offensive rebounds, which led to a change in the lead in the game. We went into the break with a halftime score of 40:35.

Exciting duel

After halftime it was bumpier for the Münster team. Cologne's Miller proved to be an unstoppable opponent and gave Cologne the lead again in the 26th minute with 52:56. But the Baskets stabilized their flow and defense to take a 63:60 lead before the last quarter. The final period was shaken by tension when ex-Baskets player Jasper Günther missed the equalizer.

The game finally ended with 79:76 for the Uni Baskets Münster. The number of spectators in the Berg Fidel hall was 1,820 people. Dominant statistics from the game include a two-pointer rate of 61% for Uni Baskets and 54% for Cologne, as well as a three-pointer rate of 26% and 35%, respectively. Despite winning the game, the Uni Baskets were dissatisfied with a free throw rate of only 55%.

The next game is already coming up: the season opener against the Artland Dragons on Friday at 7:30 p.m. For the away games there is a public viewing in the Schaf's principal hall, where the games are broadcast on a 14 square meter LED screen.
