University of Münster shines in the university rankings: top ratings for students!
The University of Münster did very well in the current university rankings of the “Centre for Higher Education Development” (CHE). How uni-muenster.de reports, the ranking evaluates student satisfaction as well as important factors regarding studies, teaching and research. Subjects such as German studies, psychology, Romance studies, philosophy as well as Catholic and Protestant theology were evaluated for the university.
Especially in the subject of psychology, excellent ratings were given for the study organization and the support during the studies. The subject of Catholic theology also received positive feedback, particularly with regard to the introduction to academic work. In five out of six subjects, the students gave four or more stars (out of a possible five) for key indicators such as the general study situation and the support from the lecturers.
University ranking and student satisfaction
The results of the CHE university ranking 2025 are based on the judgments of around 120,000 students and professors surveyed. These surveys showed that several subjects at the University of Münster, particularly psychology, Romance studies and philosophy, ended up in the top group. The subject of psychology was characterized by strong research, measured in terms of citations per publication and the number of doctorates per professorship.
The ranking announced that it provides guidance for students when choosing where to study and offers a comprehensive analysis of more than 10,000 degree programs at over 300 universities and technical colleges in German-speaking countries.
Additionally published che.de the new ZEIT study guide 2024/2025, which refers to the CHE ranking. Frank Ziegele, the managing director of the CHE, emphasizes the high level of student satisfaction. The study shows that four out of five departments at German universities offer preliminary or bridging courses and that more than half of the departments evaluated received top marks for the study situation.
Interactive tools and other rankings
The CHE university ranking has been the most comprehensive university comparison tool in German-speaking countries for over 25 years. It includes detailed insights into a total of 36 subjects, 15 of which have been newly ranked, including computer science, medicine, political science and sociology. From May 2, 2025, the ranking was available digitally on HeyStudium, and the ZEIT study guide with an additional booklet “Paths into a career” has been available in stores since May 4, 2025 for 11.95 euros.
Another important player in the field of university evaluation is studycheck.de. The StudyCheck Award annually honors the most popular universities in Germany based on experience reports. The ranking of the universities results from a score that takes into account the star rating and the recommendation rate of the students. In 2024, 11.5% of submitted reviews were not published for various reasons.
