University of Münster: New videos on teacher training courses are starting!
The University of Münster has taken a new step in providing study information for prospective teachers. A video series that was presented today is intended to provide prospective students with comprehensive information about the various teacher training courses. A total of five new videos provide an overview of the teacher training course and highlight the different types of teacher training.
The first video in this series was published in summer 2024 and focuses on the new “Special Needs” course of study. In addition, another five videos are being planned, each of which will deal in more detail with a specific type of teaching profession. The videos not only provide basic information, but also provide insights into everyday student life. Teacher training students describe their personal experiences and their motivation for choosing to become a teacher and are shown in their study environment, which is supplemented by graphic overlays on the study structure. Scenes from seminars, laboratories and libraries complete the offering.
Orientation offers for prospective students
In order to make it easier for first-year students to choose the right study plan, the GHR student council organizes an orientation week for students of primary, secondary, secondary, comprehensive school teaching and special education teaching. This event will take place from October 6th to 10th, 2025 in H1, Schlosspl. 46, 48143 Münster. The events start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. The first orientation day is scheduled for September 30, 2024. Experts and experienced students are available to clarify questions and offer support. Anyone interested can find out more via email to FachschaftGHR@uni-muenster.de.
It is also important to think about the type of school you want early on. The focus of your studies and your traineeship should be on the federal state in which you would like to work later. This also includes deciding which subject combinations make sense, since different subjects are offered in different federal states. For example, the subject of pedagogy only exists in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The legal framework
The Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs has established principles for the mutual recognition of teaching qualifications in the 16 federal states. This regulation enables graduates to begin their preparatory service in another federal state. Given the variety of school types and training concepts, it is advisable to complete your training in the federal state in which you are planning to later work as a teacher. Particularly in federal states such as Bavaria, there are special regulations regarding the permissible subject combinations that must be observed.
Support from the University of Münster and the GHR student council is an important part of a successful start to your studies. The new videos and the orientation week support prospective students in making informed decisions and contribute to the attractiveness of the teaching profession.
