University of Paderborn: News for athletes and students
On May 27, 2025, a welcome event took place at the University of Paderborn to welcome new employees into the academic community. Prof. Dr. Matthias Bauer, President of the University, and Simone Probst, Vice President for Economic and Human Resources Administration, warmly welcomed the new colleagues. The event included an information market that introduced employees to the university's central contact points and offerings.
The information market covered various topics, including university sports, library offerings, equality work and funding opportunities for young scientists. An entertaining quiz was used to provide information about the university, its research focuses and events. Further information is available on the Human Resources Development website, such as uni-paderborn.de reported.
The challenges for top athletes
Particularly noteworthy is the support for students who are also active in top-class sports. This balancing act between studying and a sporting career presents many athletes with major challenges. Not only do they have to fulfill their sporting obligations, but they also have to successfully complete their academic studies. Access to top-class competitive sport often comes at a time in life that is crucial for one's professional future.
The “Partner University of Top Sports” project, which was launched in 1999 by the General German University Sports Association (adh) in cooperation with various partners, aims to support around 1,200 top athletes studying at more than 100 adh member universities. The University of Paderborn has been part of this important program since 2005. The support includes, among other things, help with enrollment, joint study planning and individual advice on making attendance more flexible during training camps or courses.
In addition, individual consideration is given when scheduling seminars and exams. Interested athletes should contact the University of Paderborn before enrolling or starting their studies in order to benefit from these tailor-made offers. The program is coordinated locally by University Sports Paderborn, which plays a central role in academic integration and sports training paderborn.de and adh.de add to.
These measures help athletes achieve academic success alongside top sporting performance and thus create a solid foundation for their future careers.
