A variety of events at the UDE: Exciting week ahead!

On June 11, 2025, the University of Duisburg-Essen will provide information about a variety of events that will take place from June 16 to 21. This week is thematically broad and includes important topics such as war, illness, art, being queer, cyberbullying, e-learning, energy transition and multi-talent. Attendees often have the option to attend events on-site or online, although registration is required in some cases to secure a spot.

Monday, June 16, begins at 12 p.m. with a lecture by Dr. Atdhe Hetemi, who deals with war crimes in Kosovo. The lecture will take place in LB 338 on the Duisburg campus. At the same time, the conference “Queer AΦ Europe: Social Concepts and Categories” will be held at the College for Social Sciences and Humanities in Essen from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., for which registration is required by June 12th. Another highlight of the day is the lecture by Prof. Dr. Gabi Schierning on materials for the energy transition, which begins at 2 p.m. in the glass pavilion on the Essen campus. In addition, Dr. Monique Ratermann-Busse will speak about “Blended Learning” from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. The day ends at 7 p.m. at Café Lingua in Café Vision, a format for intercultural exchange.

Diverse topics at the UDE

Impartial lectures are on the program on Tuesday, June 17th. At 4 p.m. Prof. Dr. Mads Hald Andersen on immunomodulating vaccines at the Essen University Hospital. At the same time, several events are taking place on the Essen campus that deal with a wide range of scientific topics, including the lecture by Prof. Dr. Hendrik Härtig, who deals with neutrality in physics lessons. Registration is also required here. Prof. Dr. Hans-Curt Flemming will shed light on the relationships between water, religion and culture from 4:15 p.m. to 6 p.m., while Dr. Florian Sprenger will present a book presentation on the subject of science and positioning at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 18th, features a lecture by Dr. Guillaume Schull will provide further scientific input on molecules and chemical reactions at 1 p.m. Following on from this, Prof. Dr. William Collins Donahue German Lessons for American Democracy. Another highlight is the Summer Festival of Building Sciences, which takes place from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and invites you to a convivial party with DJ music on the campus lawn. The day ends with a lecture by Prof. Yuichi Toda about cyberbullying and self-surveillance.

Additional offers and conferences

On Saturday, June 21st, a workshop for children about the magical dragon in Chinese culture will be offered, which will take place at the Confucius Institute Metropole Ruhr in Duisburg. This workshop requires prior registration to ensure participation.

In addition to the events at the UDE, those interested can also explore the educational landscape outside the university. Trade fairs and conferences such as Didacta, LEARNTEC and Online Educa Berlin form platforms that deal with e-learning and various aspects of education. Didacta is a central educational trade fair that covers all areas of education, while LEARNTEC focuses on professional education and IT. The Online Educa Berlin conference also deals with innovative approaches to technologically supported training and further education. Particularly noteworthy is eLearning Africa, which deals with developments in the field of information and communication technology in Africa.
