Knowledge adventure for brats: children's university in Bielefeld inspires!

Bielefeld University announces the relaunch of its children's university for children in grades 3 to 6. This special initiative offers children the opportunity to learn about basic science topics in a child-friendly way. The first lectures will take place on March 21st and March 28th. Overall, places are limited until March 4th, which has already led to large crowds for some events. Loud aktuell.uni-bielefeld.de Children can take part in one of two large lecture halls, which can accommodate almost 400 children at the same time.

The topics of the lectures are both exciting and educational. Professor Dr. In his lecture “Coincidence or not – understanding the world of data with the magic of statistics”, Roland Langrock from the Faculty of Economics explains how data is used in various areas of life such as medicine and sport. Professor Dr. Marie Herberger from the Faculty of Law addresses the question “Do I have to work for my parents as a child?” in her lecture. Reference is made to the regulations in the Civil Code.

Diverse topics and formats

On March 14th, Professor Dr. Lisa Stinken-Rösner from the Faculty of Physics will take part, who will present the exciting topic “Everything in Motion”. This lecture is already fully booked, which shows the high demand for such programs. The children's university aims to promote the curiosity of young people, which is in line with the trend in many German cities. Surprisingly, since the first children's university in Tübingen in 2002, numerous other institutions have been founded that offer similar programs. Kinderleicht.berlin highlights that around 80 universities and technical colleges in Germany have now set up children's universities.

The Bielefeld Children's University strives to provide a barrier-free and multilingual platform for children, with information available in English, Turkish, Ukrainian, Kurdish, Arabic and Russian. This promotes inclusive learning and helps reach as many children as possible who are interested in science and education. While children actively participate in the lectures, parents have the opportunity to watch from an adjacent lecture hall, strengthening the connection between parents and children during the learning process.

Insights into the educational landscape

Similar programs to the Children's University in Bielefeld can also be found in other German cities, such as Berlin, where monthly lectures on medical topics are offered at the Charité Children's University. The Humboldt Children's University also has exciting topics in its program, which can also be viewed by parents via video transmission. These cultural and educational initiatives provide a pressure-free learning environment for children and address important questions such as “Why do we dream?” or “Why are adults allowed more than children?”, like Kinderleicht.berlin notes.

Overall, the children's university represents an important offer that not only helps to quench children's thirst for knowledge, but also promotes their creativity and social skills. More and more children and parents are recognizing the value of such educational initiatives and are becoming an active part of the knowledge society of tomorrow.
