Shaping the future: New certificate for entrepreneurial talents at TU Dortmund!

On March 19, 2025, the first certificate in the field of entrepreneurship was awarded at the Technical University of Dortmund. Markus Neuhaus, board member of the CET (Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer), presented the certificate at a ceremony. This certificate aims to provide students with additional entrepreneurial skills and is an integral part of the continuing education offering in the area of starting a business. Bachelor student Philipp Stehr recommended the program because it is designed for students of all experience levels and offers practical content.

The **Entrepreneurship Certificate** enables students to acquire additional qualifications without students having to put in a lot of additional effort. However, it is aimed not only at those who want to start their own business, but also at those who want to develop innovative solutions to social challenges, for example in the area of energy transition or climate protection. The program is open to bachelor's and master's students as well as doctoral students at TU Dortmund.

Modules and entry options

The certificate consists of three modules: An interdisciplinary basic module that provides insights into entrepreneurial practice and the start-up world; CET workshops dealing with practical methods and tools; as well as in-depth modules that cover individual interests such as innovation management or social entrepreneurship. To obtain the certificate, students must collect at least 15 credit points in the three modules.

The next entry into the program is planned for the summer semester of 2025. However, registration is required for some modules before the start of the lecture period. The first event will take place on April 10, 2025 at 12:15 p.m. in room E23 on Otto-Hahn-Str. 14 instead. The event does not require registration and offers 4 credit points. The content of the module includes economic, organizational and technical fundamentals of business process management, which is intended to help students gain knowledge about the analysis and improvement of business processes.

Fireside evenings and support for those wanting to start a business

In parallel to these developments, a practical course of study is being offered at Hannover University of Applied Sciences, which is carried out in cooperation with the Hanover University of Applied Sciences for Economics. This community initiative is supported by numerous supporters such as business associations, chambers and the EU. In addition to the courses, there are fireside evenings on Thursdays where representatives from business and associations exchange experiences and hold discussions.

The Entrepreneurship Center NEXSTER at Hannover University of Applied Sciences actively supports those wishing to start a business in implementing their ideas. The aim of the center is to promote entrepreneurial activity as an attractive alternative to employment, to reduce fears and to question prejudices against self-employment.

These initiatives at the TU Dortmund and Hannover University of Applied Sciences illustrate how important it is to promote entrepreneurial thinking and action in the higher education sector. The targeted training of students in these skills will be essential in the future in order to develop innovative solutions to current social challenges.
