Gaming in the company: The new way to talent and team spirit!
The format was offered at this year's gamescom gaming trade fair, which took place from September 3rd to 6thCorporates@gamescoma stage for important discussions about the role of gaming in companies. The event was organized in collaboration with WHU, Fusion Campus, WPP Media, the CIO Foundation and Koelnmesse. Experts from various industries came together to talk about integrating gaming into employer branding, talent recruitment and team building. The panel included Alexandra Kühne from TK Elevator, Matthias Nawrocki from ERGO, Fabian Kietzmann from WPP Media and Johanna Heller from Schwarz Corporate Solutions.
A central theme was the increasing relevance of digital channels and solutions for companies. Johanna Heller emphasized the positive effects of the trade fair for the Schwarz Group, which actively deals with the importance of gaming. Participants also had the opportunity to visit Europe's largest game developer, Ubisoft, where they were able to gain valuable insights.
Gaming as a strategic tool
The various companies recognized gaming as a future-oriented instrument for recruiting skilled workers and optimizing internal processes. Siemens and Ferchau discussed the use of gaming in recruiting, while Mahran Meissner from Siemens praised gamescom as an innovation laboratory. The discussion at the TakeTV & gamescom LAN stand focused on community building in the gaming sector. It is becoming clear that gaming is no longer just a leisure activity, but is being actively integrated into corporate strategies.
A study by KPMG shows that 3.3 billion people worldwide play video games regularly. In Germany, 72 percent of young people actively participate in gaming every day. These numbers make it clear that gaming has taken on a permanent place in everyday life, especially for Generation Z. Companies that incorporate gaming into their recruiting strategies can position themselves as modern employers and increase their brand awareness.
Insights and projects at gamescom
The second day of gamescom was the eventFoundations@gamescomdedicated to the event, which was organized by WHU, the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Digital Gaming Culture Foundation. 40 decision-makers and managers from the foundation sector took part. Jessica Gerke and Joachim Rother from the Bertelsmann Foundation presented a study on the attitudes of gamers in Germany towards democracy and political engagement.
A particularly exciting project that was presented is “Designing schools with games in North Rhine-Westphalia”. This program supports schools in North Rhine-Westphalia to use digital games to promote democratic and inclusive topics. Peter Kreutter emphasized that gamescom offers a unique platform to promote exchange between business and civil society.
The combination of gaming and education, especially in terms of strengthening democratic values, shows that the gaming industry not only provides entertainment, but can also have a significant impact on society and the future of young people. Gamescom 2025 has once again proven that it goes far beyond a normal trade fair and acts as a catalyst for innovation and collaboration.
