Kaiserslautern: Training exchange shows opportunities in MINT careers!

The training exchange in Kaiserslautern is just around the corner. On June 18, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Fritz Walter Stadium will open its doors to numerous young people who would like to get an overview of their professional opportunities. Under the motto “With a double pass to a training position”, 140 training companies are presenting themselves, including the RPTU, which is considered one of the largest employers in the region. The event is aimed not only at young people, but also at those accompanying them such as parents, friends and teachers. The aim is to make orientation easier when entering the professional world and to support the search for the right training occupation rptu.de reported.

A special focus is on the RPTU's Ada Lovelace project, which will be present with a hands-on activity under the motto “Girls do technology”. Here, girls and young women have the opportunity to playfully explore MINT careers (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology). This will be done through workshops such as controlling an Ozobot, a small robot, where creativity is encouraged without prior knowledge. The campaign aims to give participants digital skills that will be in demand in future professions and to inspire them to pursue technical careers.

MINT careers and the promotion of women

Promoting women in STEM careers is the focus of the Ada Lovelace Project. Group activities aimed at providing practical experience are intended to stimulate interest in these careers. The project aims to use role models and personal practical experience to break down traditional role models and strengthen the positive image of MINT careers. The events offer space for experimentation, crafting and programming, with the fun factor being the main focus employment agency.de.

The importance of MINT skills is increasing in our increasingly digitalized world. Anja Huth, head of the Saxony-Anhalt West employment agency, highlights the excellent prospects in these areas. MINT careers not only offer good pay, but also excellent opportunities for advancement. In the Salzland district, for example, around 48% of the registered training positions in 2024 were in MINT professions. This development shows that the proportion of MINT training positions has increased by 1.6 percentage points over the last ten years. Despite the positive trends, the proportion of women in these professions remains at around 7%, which indicates that there is still a need to support women and girls in order to reduce existing gender disparities employment agency.de reported.

The educational institutions and numerous training companies that present themselves at the training fair are aware of their responsibility and are working to train the next generation of skilled workers well and to prepare them for the challenges of a constantly evolving world of work. The upcoming event in Kaiserslautern represents an important opportunity, both for the young people and for the training companies, to set a future-oriented course.
