Revolution at WHU: First alumna as chancellor and sustainability pioneer!

In the dynamic world of management, the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management once again to the fore with the appointment of Dr. Rebecca Winkelmann as Chancellor. She has been part of the renowned business school for over 20 years and has taken on a variety of roles during this time. Her induction into the new position, which she has held for two months, is characterized by intensive exchange with the teams and a focus on sustainability.

Rebecca began her career at WHU in 2007 as a student assistant in the dean's office. Back then, she supported the first accreditation process by AACSB, one of the world's most respected accreditations for business schools. She was responsible for important projects such as the creation of the first AACSB report and the management of the Düsseldorf campus as well as the executive education portfolio.

Successful accreditations and sustainable development

How Press portal confirmed, WHU recently received AACSB accreditation for another five years. This award is not only a sign of the high level of education, but also of the university's continuous improvement. Since 2010, WHU has regularly undergone the rigorous accreditation process, in which only about 5% of business schools worldwide receive AACSB accreditation.

Accreditation requires clear mission statements, first-class teaching methods and up-to-date curricula. In addition, WHU is also accredited by FIBAA and EQUIS, which strengthens its position in the international education market.

A central concern of Dr. Winkelmann is sustainability. Through the influence of her sister, who is a climate scientist, she has developed a personal commitment to environmental issues. This is manifested in their support of the “WHU Sustainability Management Center”, which pursues various initiatives to reduce the ecological footprint.

A holistic influence on society

Winkelmann, who is also passionate about gardening and grows her own vegetables most of the time, sees gardening as a form of meditation. This activity teaches them important values such as patience and resilience. “Promoting biodiversity in my garden is my personal contribution to more sustainable agriculture,” said the Chancellor.

In addition, WHU was the only German business school to receive the BSIS certificate in 2022, which evaluates the influence of a university on regional and international levels. This is evident in seven areas analyzed, including finance, education and community engagement. The experts visited WHU in 2022 and confirmed the university's significant influence on society in Germany.

Dr. Winkelmann works closely with two other alumni, Eva Kohl and Steffen Löv, in the Core Leadership Team. The exchange with her predecessor Peter, who worked in the role for over ten years, provides valuable perspectives.

At WHU, Rebecca Winkelmann has not only taken on a new leadership position, but has also developed a vision for the future that is based on excellence, entrepreneurship and social commitment. The road to your new role is still long, but the first six weeks in your chancellor position have been both intense and enriching.

Overall, the WHU shows through its high aggressive values, its accreditations and the commitment of its members that it is not just an educational institution, but also has a decisive influence on economic and social life in Germany. The journey is far from over, and with Dr. With Winkelmann at the helm, WHU will continue to strive for innovative solutions.
