Animals for Peace: Experience The Animal Conference” live!
An exciting event is coming up in Landau: On Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 3 p.m., the organ fairy tale “The Conference of the Animals” based on Erich Kästner will be performed in the collegiate church. The lion Alois, the elephant Oskar and the giraffe Leopold are at the center of this production and take responsibility for peace and a better world. The performance will be staged by students from the Performing Arts/Theatre course at the RPTU's Center for Cultural and Knowledge Dialogue (ZKW), with musical support from the monastery and district cantor Anna Linß, who will present the impressive organ improvisations.
The story addresses central values such as justice, peace and cohesion, and offers viewers a humorous and heartwarming plea for a better world. The production combines changing venues within the church with creative scenic elements and impressive organ music. Admission to the event is free; However, donations are welcome to benefit the Magombani School project in Kenya. This initiative aims to provide children with a better education. rptu.de reports that the project is supported by this event.
An everlasting topic
In a time marked by conflict and division, the performance appeals to all adults to take seriously the responsibility for peace. The animals in Kästner's story function as metaphors for people and their ability to reason. This concept is not only implemented in Landau, but is also part of a larger context in which Erich Kästner continues to provide inspiring voices. His works and their themes are currently experiencing a remarkable comeback.
Accompanying the performance in Landau, numerous events celebrating Kästner's life's work will also take place in other cities. This ranges from literary programs to performances and film screenings, all of which increase awareness of its timeless values. dresden-kulturstadt.de has published a comprehensive list of events dedicated to Erich Kästner.
