Timur's path to sustainable leadership: From IKEA to green innovation
Timur, current Category Logistics Leader at IKEA, has played a significant role in integrating sustainability principles into the company's strategy during his four years with the company. Looking for support to meet the demands of his new leadership role, Timur decided to complete the Executive MBA (EMBA) at Kellogg-WHU. Inspired by a mentor who was himself a graduate of the program, he quickly recognized the transformative nature of this training.
A central focus of Timur's career is creating sustainable supply chains. This is in line with IKEA's vision of creating “a better life for many people”. In order to minimize his company's environmental impact, he initiated, among other things, the switch from plastic flower pots to recycled materials. He also encouraged gardeners in the Netherlands to use rainwater to irrigate their plants, which has already led to the switch among more than 65 gardeners.
Sustainability and leadership skills
Timur sees the development of his own leadership style and the development of a more comprehensive perspective as essential points in his personal and professional development. “The EMBA program functions as my ‘door to Narnia,’” he says, describing the transformative experience that has forever changed his mindset and career. In this context, he highlights the importance of the visibility within the industry that EMBA career coaching offers him.
Another result of his further training can be found in the implementation of new working methods for his team. “I would like to bring the EMBA knowledge into my company and lead it in a targeted manner,” explains Timur. In addition to the focus on sustainability, he also recognized the entrepreneurial aspects of the program, particularly the promotion of innovation, which opened up new perspectives for him.
EMBA program and networking
The networking opportunities that the EMBA program offers are of great importance to Timur. Access to respected leaders and professors worldwide has not only provided him with new insights, but also created close personal relationships. These gatherings not only promote the exchange of ideas, but also the formation of a support network that is invaluable for his professional future.
In addition, the EMBA program is designed to provide managers with specialist knowledge about sustainable business and social responsibility. It includes basic and advanced modules in areas such as business administration, innovation management and corporate social responsibility, which prepare graduates to actively address the challenges of sustainable business management. Given the diverse topics covered in the program, including nutrition and energy consumption, it is a comprehensive approach that links to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Timur's commitment to sustainability is evident not only in his professional initiatives, but also in his desire to leave a legacy that promotes sustainable practices while reducing the environmental footprint. By driving innovative solutions, Timur sets new standards in the corporate world and actively contributes to a better, more sustainable business environment.
