Trier University scores points in the CHE ranking: Students rate support!
The Center for University Development (CHE) has published the latest results of a comprehensive student survey on various subjects at the University of Trier. This survey is part of the renowned CHE university rankings, which have been considered the most comprehensive ranking of German universities for 25 years. The survey particularly concerns undergraduate courses in educational science, German studies, psychology and Romance studies.
The feedback from students revealed that the support provided by teachers and the support at the beginning of the course were rated particularly positively. The University of Trier is known for integrating new students well through numerous introductory events, so-called O days. Respondents in Romance studies rated the helpfulness of teachers with 4.3 out of 5 points, while in German studies a score of 4.0 was given for discussing course assignments.
Results of the student survey
In the subject of psychology, 4.3 points were achieved for networking opportunities with other students. The educational sciences also performed well: here, study-related support offers such as tutorials received a rating of 4.0 points. The library's equipment was also consistently rated positively, and in psychology there were top marks for the introduction to scientific work as well as suggestions for critical reflection.
In addition to the publication of the results in Trier, students will be able to evaluate their study conditions for the CHE university ranking 2025/26 in the coming months. The survey, which is carried out in the engineering sciences and the courses already mentioned, aims to collect comprehensive information on the teaching and learning conditions at universities. Invitations to take part in this important survey are sent directly by the respective universities.
Data collection methodology
The student survey will take place from mid-October 2024 to February 2, 2025. Students from the third semester onwards are invited, although master's students in architecture from the first semester onwards are also encouraged to take part. One principle is that a minimum number of at least 15 answers per subject is required for publication of the results to ensure data quality.
Students can evaluate various aspects, such as the organization of their studies, the support from teachers and general support during their studies. Specific questions about laboratory internships or excursions are also included in the questionnaire. The entire process is monitored by the CHE to ensure that the students' judgments are unbiased and unbiased. Universities must also not attempt to influence student ratings, as this would result in non-compliance with the publication criteria.
The results of the survey will be published in May 2025 in the ZEIT study guide and online at heystudium.de/ranking published. Detailed information on the survey methodology is available on the CHE website, which supports the transparency and validity of the ranking.
