Trier University celebrates summer festival: music, fun and new ideas!

On Thursday, July 11, 2025, the University of Trier celebrated a big summer festival under the motto “Together we are a university”. The event took place in bright sunshine and attracted numerous participants, including students, employees and other guests. Visitors were offered a varied program that included music, discussion forums and various activities for children. Various student councils, the WiSo Association, company health management, uniSPORT, the Green Office and Greenpeace Trier were also represented.

From a culinary point of view, guests could look forward to highlights such as Japanese cuisine, plastic-free fishing, cocktails, beer pong and beer competitions, as well as traditional Luxembourgish specialties. President Eva Martha Eckkrammer also opened a new children's playground on the uniSPORT premises, which is equipped with a sandpit, seesaw equipment and a climbing frame. A new staff club was also opened in the cafeteria building.

Diverse program and cultural accents

The festival included a panel discussion on the current topic of “Gender Clash at the Ballot Box”, where Sven Teuber and psychology students in the Audimax had the opportunity to present their perspectives. On a stage, uniSPORT presented a body pump session and a wheel of fortune with the motto “Sustainable Trier”. In the evening, the General Student Committee (AStA) offered space for up-and-coming bands in a forum from 7:30 p.m.

As a special innovation this year, an after-show party took place in the basement of the cafeteria, which lasted until the early hours of the morning. This summer festival not only demonstrated the university's vibrant community, but also the commitment of the students, as well as the importance of cultural engagement for personal development. Because, as another source describes, cultural offerings and activities are important milestones for students to make social contacts and strengthen identification with the university.

Cultural engagement as a key to personal development

The research project "Eigen-ART. Personality development through cultural education" at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences examined the influence of cultural participation on students. The results showed that cultural engagement is not only beneficial for self-reflection and self-confidence, but also for work-life balance. A large number of students stated that they actively participated in cultural activities in the first two semesters of their studies.

The study finds that engagement in arts and culture plays an important role for students to find emotional support, socialize and build friendships. With its summer festival and additional offerings, the University of Trier has not only created a platform for exchange and integration, but also strengthened awareness of the importance of culture within academic life.

In view of the constant development and the positive aspects of cultural engagement, universities are called upon to maintain and further expand cultural offerings. In this way, the personal and social development of students can be promoted, which ultimately also benefits cohesion within the university.

In summary, the summer festival at the University of Trier was a complete success and impressive proof that community and cultural commitment can go hand in hand. University of Trier and the numerous initiatives demonstrate the desire to promote a lively and inclusive university culture.
